Coffee & Cocoa Under Pressure – Between Unstable Markets and New Realities
In this episode of Coffee, Chocolate & Barroom Discussions, Dany Marquis offers a candid look at the latest news in the coffee and cocoa industry. A condensed version of the May 21 live broadcast, it provides a clearer understanding of the major issues shaking up our industry.
A Coffee Market Under High Pressure
The price of Arabica coffee is in turmoil: unstable weather in Brazil, low stocks, and extreme usage. One container on the way, and already the headache begins. Prices are being adjusted upwards, but it's difficult to keep up with a market that is rising faster than it is falling.
Cocoa prices skyrocket
Cocoa now exceeds $10 per kilo. Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana are seeing their harvests fall, while demand is soaring. Added to this are new US taxes on imported cocoa. The result: skyrocketing costs and massive investments to be mobilized.
Cup of Excellence: the best coffee in the world
We are closely following the results of the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition. Dany shares his thoughts on this elite competition and announces the upcoming arrival of seven award-winning coffees, which will be roasted with our new roaster—and unveiled in newly redesigned packaging.
New chocolates, buying groups & collaboration
White chocolates, 40% milk chocolates, custom projects for professionals: buying groups allow us to share risk and innovate together. Want to participate? Just write to Dany.
Reflections on tipping
Tips are more than just an addition to the bill. They have a profound influence on the balance between teams. In May, the month of salary reviews, Brûlerie du Quai reflected on how to fairly recognize the work done in the store... and behind the scenes.
